haze asked:

I am having a carpenter friend build floor-to-ceiling bookcases for my living room renovation. I plan on painting them white and want them to look professional. I’d like to know the best type of wood for such a project. I’ve heard poplar and maple are great hardwoods for painting? Thanks!

The cabinets for 45 years and it also if these are usually chosen for their natural color and extra cash.

If you’re going to paint over the wood, I would use pine. Otherwise, consider staining them and use oak, poplar or maple.

Use pine if you are going to paint them. It is inexpensive and clean, and also easy to work with. Maple and and poplar are BEAUTIFUL hardwoods, that if you used them, you’d want to have them sealed and let their clear wood color show thru and just SHINE. If you’re stuck on painting them, go with something lesser, like I said, pine. Don’t waste your money on good wood that should be shown only to cover it over with paint. What a waste that would be and too, too sad. Your carpenter friend would be sad to do that.
