I just moved and I’m on a seriously strict budget. I’m thinking of attaching 2 bookcases together (tall/long 6-shelf bookcases) and placing a cushion ontop.

Any ideas and/or suggestions

   Try craigslist.com You may be able to find what you are looking for free or for very little money.

   id just buy those cheap foam matresses for like 20$ and sleep on the ground

   I think you would be better off with a mattress on the floor.

   You can always try your local Freecycle group. People are always requesting and offering things on there, and best of all, it’s free. Good luck, and enjoy the new place.

   The back side but am sure you might work it you could find cheap futon mattress some where for cheap and put mattress some where for cheap and maybe flip the floor and creative idea.
