Sassure asked:
How on earth shall we conceive furniture signed with what we will call “Cuban style”? -Red- It might be said, but that answer would certainly reflect a lack of imagination or a crude, poor and plain association of notions.
There is now a collection that represents with fidelity (and I’m not saying with Fidel-ity) the Cuban spirit: Evocation of tropical beaches and palm trees, and above all, simplicity, innocence and warmth, characteristics of the Cuban soul and its idealism (very much associated with the North American transcendentalists such as Whitman and Emerson) always opposed to Anglo-Saxon pragmatism (originated in the United States with Charles Sanders Pierce and William James, the brother of the English nationalized Henry James). There is nothing political about this, for we are not talking of an architecture and design that have signed countries as Mexico, with futuristic style and muralist art, expressing the greatness –through size- of a revolution and its protagonists, and art that makes itself available and visible to everybody, for it does not lay framed nor hangs from a museum’s wall (Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros and José Clemente Orozco being one of the most important muralists). We are talking about a collection that recollects a paradisiacal Eden, previous to the Spanish arrival to the –now historical- island.
Made with oak wood, the Cuba edition manages to express simplicity and also introduce details that communicate the notion of an authentic piece of craftwork.
The “Cuba Range” from www.glasstablesandchairs.com, includes a coffee table set, a dining table , a bookcase, and a side unit .
