      and

if 8 feet then needs 3 of them
if 10 feet, then needs 3 of them
if 12 feet, then needs 2 of them
if 20 feet, then needs 2 of them

      First one is 23.33 feet

      In sizes of 8 feet, we would need: 8 * 3 = 24 feet
In sizes of 10 feet we need 30 feet
In sizes of 12 feet we need 24 feet
In sizes of 20 feet we need 40 feet

      Is this a trick question?

Approx. 23ft would cover the shelves but what about the side boards? You did say a book”case” right?

      1. 4 ft 8 inches = 56 inches * 5 = 280 inches/12 = 23.33 ft

      2. a. you would need 5 boards if they came in 8ft (total 40ft)
      b. you would need 3 boards if they came in 10ft (total 30ft)
      c. you would need 3 boards if they came in 12ft (total 36ft)
      d. you would need 2 boards if they came in 20ft (total 40ft)

for #2 im assuming that the carpenter uses a full board to cut each shelf
